Apple is reportedly reassessing its production plans for the upcoming iPhone 17. According to a new leak, the company may reduce manufacturing capacity for the standard iPhone 17 model. The report claims that rising hardware costs and an ongoing shortage of memory chips have prompted Apple to reevaluate expected market demand. However, the company has not officially confirmed these reports.

Standard iPhone 17 Production Could Be Reduced

According to Weibo tipster Fixed Focus Digital, Apple may temporarily suspend nearly one-third of the production capacity on certain manufacturing lines dedicated to the standard iPhone 17. This follows an earlier report suggesting that the company had already reduced its overall production target by around 15 percent.

The latest leak does not specify whether the reported changes will affect Apple’s entire production network or only selected assembly lines.

Rising Component Costs Driving the Decision

The report suggests that Apple has conducted an internal review to assess how increasing component costs could impact demand for the iPhone 17. As the prices of key hardware components continue to rise, the company is reportedly reconsidering its production plans ahead of the smartphone’s launch.

The electronics industry is currently facing a significant rise in memory and storage chip prices, largely driven by increasing demand from AI infrastructure and data centers. As a result, manufacturing costs have increased across the technology sector.

iPhone Prices Remain Unchanged for Now

Apple has already raised prices for several products, including Macs, iPads, Apple TV, and HomePod devices, due to higher component costs. However, the company has so far kept iPhone prices unchanged.

Even so, previous reports have suggested that Apple could increase iPhone prices later this year alongside the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. So far, the company has made no official announcement regarding a price hike.

Launch Strategy Could Also Change

Reports also indicate that Apple may adopt a split launch strategy for future iPhone releases. Under this approach, the iPhone 18 Pro models could debut first, followed later by the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2.

At present, Apple has not commented on the reports regarding possible production changes for the iPhone 17. As a result, it remains unclear whether any production cuts, if implemented, will affect the availability of the standard iPhone 17 after its launch.
