Google has introduced a feature-packed software update for its premium wireless earbuds, the Pixel Buds Pro 2. The update brings Dynamic Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Gemini-powered audio controls, Pixel Watch sleep detection integration and improved Live Translate support.

The new features will begin rolling out to existing Pixel Buds Pro 2 users in September. Google has also introduced a new Olive colour variant for the earbuds. However, the hardware remains unchanged with the update. The Tensor A1 chip, 11mm drivers, battery specifications and existing noise-control system remain the same.

Dynamic ANC Promises Better Noise Cancellation

The biggest highlight of the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 update is Dynamic ANC. The technology detects minor changes in how the earbuds fit inside the user’s ears and automatically adjusts the Active Noise Cancellation accordingly.

Even when the seal between the ear tip and ear canal changes slightly, Dynamic ANC is designed to maintain effective noise reduction. This means users can expect a more consistent ANC experience even if the earbuds shift slightly during use.

Adjust Audio Settings With Gemini Voice Commands

Google has also added Gemini-powered audio controls to the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Users can now use voice commands to Gemini to directly adjust certain audio settings.

For example, users can change the bass level without manually opening the companion app or audio settings. A simple voice command can be used to customise the audio experience.

Pixel Watch Sleep Detection Integration

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 will also work with the sleep detection feature available on compatible Pixel Watch models. When the Pixel Watch detects that the user has fallen asleep, the earbuds can automatically pause audio playback.

The touch controls will also be disabled and notifications will be silenced while the user is sleeping. This is designed to prevent accidental touches and unwanted interruptions during sleep.

Live Translate Now Supports More Than 70 Languages

Google has also improved the Live Translate feature on the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Users can tap the earbuds to translate more than 70 languages in near real time.

The updated system supports two-way conversations as well. A user can speak in their own language, while the connected Pixel phone translates the conversation into the other person’s language and plays the translated version.

According to Google, users will not need to manually activate listening mode on their phone every time they want to use the feature.

However, Google’s announcement also mentions the Pixel Buds 2a, although the company has not clearly confirmed whether these new software features will also be available on the Pixel Buds 2a.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 Gets New Olive Variant

Alongside the new software features, Google has introduced the Pixel Buds Pro 2 in a new Olive colour. The new option joins the existing Porcelain, Hazel and Peony colour variants.

The company says the software update will begin rolling out in September. Importantly, Dynamic ANC will not be limited to the new Olive model and will also be available on existing Pixel Buds Pro 2 units.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 Features and Specifications

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 feature Google’s Tensor A1 chip paired with custom 11mm dynamic speaker drivers. They offer features such as Transparency Mode, Active In-Ear Pressure Relief and Conversation Detection.

The Conversation Detection feature automatically pauses audio playback and activates Transparency Mode when the user starts speaking.

The earbuds also come with Clear Calling, three microphones on each earbud, a Voice Accelerometer and wind-blocking mesh covers. Google’s Silent Seal 2.0 technology handles ANC, while the new Dynamic ANC system adjusts noise cancellation according to minor changes in the earbuds’ fit.

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 carry an IP54 rating, while the charging case comes with an IPX4 rating.

Connectivity and Find Hub Support

In addition to Gemini-powered voice controls, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 support Bluetooth 5.4 and Super Wideband connectivity. The earbuds can switch audio between compatible Pixel devices, including the Pixel Watch.

Both the earbuds and charging case support Google’s Find Hub network. The charging case also features a built-in ringtone speaker, making it easier to locate if misplaced.

Battery Life and Charging

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 can be charged using USB Type-C and Qi-certified wireless charging.

Google claims the earbuds can deliver up to 12 hours of listening time with ANC turned off, while the total battery life with the charging case can reach up to 48 hours. With ANC enabled, the earbuds offer up to 8 hours of playback, while the total battery life with the case is rated at up to 30 hours.

A quick five-minute charge can provide up to 1.5 hours of listening time with ANC turned off.

Each earbud weighs approximately 4.7 grams, while the charging case weighs around 65 grams with the earbuds inside.

Overall, the latest Pixel Buds Pro 2 update adds several useful capabilities without requiring any major hardware changes. With Dynamic ANC, Gemini voice controls, enhanced Live Translate and Pixel Watch sleep integration, Google’s premium earbuds are now more feature-rich and intelligent than before.
