“The first tablet from Google comes with a built-in home”
Although tablets are typically designed for portability, the Google Pixel Tablet is more of a home-oriented device. Powered by the Tensor G2 chip, Google’s inaugural tablet serves as a hub for your smart home in addition to being a handheld device for both work and entertainment.
The tablet includes all the features you would expect, such as built-in cameras, multitasking capabilities, and support for various applications. It also boasts the distinction of being the first tablet with built-in Chromecast. However, when placed on the accompanying speaker dock, this Android tablet, priced at $499, transforms into a smart display akin to Google’s Nest Hub devices.
PROS
+Comes with a speaker dock +Runs on a sleek Android operating system +Functions as a smart home hub
CONS
-No keyboard accessory available
The versatility of the Pixel Tablet may be the key to establishing itself as one of the top tablets, not just among Android users. However, there are certainly advantages for those who are part of the Pixel ecosystem, particularly those who plan to purchase the new Google Fold or Google Pixel 7a.
As of May 10th, the Google Pixel Tablet is available for pre-order, and it will be fully available sometime in June. It comes in a single configuration, featuring 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and costs $499. Additionally, the price includes one charging dock, and extra charging docks are available for purchase at $129 each.
For individuals planning to travel with the Pixel Tablet, whether for work or school, the Pixel Tablet Case accessory is available for $79, providing protection and featuring a flexible kickstand. During our hands-on demo, we found that the stand also made docking the tablet easier.
It is surprising that Google has not yet announced a keyboard accessory for the Pixel Tablet. While there is a possibility that one will be released later, the lack of a keyboard seems like a missed opportunity for those looking to utilize the tablet for productivity.
