Apple is expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone 18 series later this year. According to recent reports, the lineup could include the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a new iPhone Ultra. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to launch next year. A fresh leak now suggests that Apple may increase the RAM on its entry-level iPhones to deliver improved Apple Intelligence performance.
iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e Could Feature 9GB RAM
According to renowned TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e could be equipped with 9GB of RAM, marking an upgrade from the 8GB RAM available on the current iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e.
The report suggests that the additional memory is intended to enhance the performance of Apple Intelligence. With iOS 27 expected to integrate AI more deeply into the operating system, the extra RAM could help deliver smoother on-device AI processing. Supply chain sources also indicate that both smartphones will be powered by Apple’s upcoming A20 chipset and feature a 9GB DRAM configuration.
Pro Models Expected to Continue With 12GB RAM
Ming-Chi Kuo also claims that the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the rumored iPhone Ultra foldable will continue to feature 12GB of RAM. The same memory configuration is also expected on the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro series.
In addition, the second-generation iPhone Air is also tipped to retain 12GB RAM, making it capable of supporting Apple’s more advanced AI features.
Advanced Apple Intelligence Features May Remain Pro-Exclusive
Although the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may receive a RAM upgrade, they are still expected to miss out on some of Apple’s most advanced AI capabilities.
According to reports, features such as customizable Siri voice expressiveness, adjustable speaking pace, and an improved on-device speech-to-text dictation system will require at least 12GB of RAM. As a result, these features are expected to remain exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Ultra, and possibly the next-generation iPhone Air.
Expected Launch Timeline
The latest report supports an earlier prediction by Ming-Chi Kuo, who previously stated that Apple would increase RAM on its entry-level iPhones to improve AI performance.
Based on current expectations, Apple could launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Ultra in September 2026. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and the second-generation iPhone Air are expected to debut around March 2027.
