Sony Alpha 7R VI Features and Specifications
The Sony Alpha 7R VI is equipped with a 66.8MP back-illuminated full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor, paired with the company’s latest BIONZ XR2 image processing engine. According to Sony, this combination delivers up to 16 stops of dynamic range, improved low-light performance, reduced image noise, and significantly faster image processing compared to the previous generation.
The camera also features Real-time Recognition AF+, powered by a dedicated AI processor. Using skeletal pose estimation, the system accurately recognizes and tracks human subjects, allowing photographers to maintain sharp focus even during fast-moving action.
For action photography, the Alpha 7R VI supports blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30fps while performing 60 autofocus and auto-exposure calculations per second. Sony claims the camera offers 5.6 times faster sensor readout than its predecessor, enabling faster image capture while minimizing rolling shutter effects.
To improve handheld shooting performance, the camera includes five-axis in-body optical image stabilisation, delivering up to 8.5 stops of compensation at the center of the frame and up to seven stops toward the edges.
On the video side, the Alpha 7R VI supports 8K video recording at 30fps and full-frame 4K recording at up to 120fps. Sony has also introduced a new Dual Gain feature, which helps reduce image noise while preserving shadow detail during video recording.
For professional audio capture, the camera supports 32-bit float in-camera audio recording when used with the new XLR-A4 XLR adaptor, making it an ideal option for filmmakers and professional content creators.
Powering the camera is Sony’s new 2,670mAh NP-SA100 battery. According to CIPA standards, the Alpha 7R VI can capture up to 710 still images using the LCD monitor or up to 600 shots using the electronic viewfinder on a single charge.
